KA 40, KA 50 These sphere accessories (40 and 50 mm diameter respectively) are for use with omnidirectional microphones.
They create the illusion of closer placement, so that greater miking distances can be used while maintaining good “focus” in the sound. This in turn reduces the disparity among the distances between individual sound sources and the microphones, e.g. in orchestras and choruses. Thus it can improve overall balance in terms of both level and clarity. This is not due so much to the relatively modest change in directionality, but rather to the elevated response plateau which is achieved without a lessening of bass response.
